Año Nuevo Island Restoration
One of only a handful of islands off the California coast, Año Nuevo Island is critical breeding habitat for seven seabird and four marine mammal species. Rebar is working in collaboration with Oikonos Ecosystem Knowledge, a conservation biology and habitat restoration non-profit organization, to restore the degraded habitat for the Rhinocerous Auklet.
The purpose of this restoration project is to design a habitat ridge to protect one-acre of bird habitat from trampling, and to provide human-made modules for bird nesting. Once the habitat has been successfully protected, a native plant community will be restored to reduce erosion and increase biodiversity on this unique island.
