They Built Their Own PARK(ing)

Below is information on other groups and individuals who have undertaken PARK(ing)-like projects around the globe. Though many have inquired, but a few hearty souls have gone the distance...

If you have created a PARK(ing) project in your location, please email us!

PARK(ing)
by John Gilbert Architects - Glasgow, Scotland, June 21, 2006.

As part of the Architecture Week 2006 John Gilbert Architects greened a Park(ing) space with turf.

This took place on St Vincent Street (between Hope and Welington Street in Glasgow’s city centre on Wednesday 21st June 2006 from 8am – until they were kicked off at 10am.

Deckchairs, umbrellas and coffee were provided.

Although Glasgow claims to be one of the greenest cities in Europe only 9% of the land is public green space whilst 12% remains as roads and parking. With a predicted increase in Glasgow’s traffic levels of 40% by 2021 [taken from The Scottish Executives Delivery Report 2002] it is clear that steps need to be taken to discourage the use of cars in the city and promote a healthier and greener lifestyle.

PARK(ing)
by Rename Your Files - Trapani, Sicily, April 13, 2006.

A group of inspired individuals, including Giulio D'Ali, Gael Moscarà and Giampiero Riggio, replicated PARK(ing) in the Sicilian town of Trapani. According to Legambiente, a prominent Italian environmental organization, Trapani ranks 99/103 in Italy for "available green zones in urban areas," with a mere 0.26 square meters per inhabitant.

There are no public lawns in Trapani - until RYF got involved. Read the entire story on the Rename Your Files website.

Just Add Water
